All good things must come to an end. Whether we like it or not, we lose interest in recreational pursuits, or we lose the capacity to pursue them. When the thrill is gone, what was once essential equipment becomes nothing but clutter. It takes up valuable space, and living with it can make us feel as if we’ve failed or been defeated.

At our February meeting, we’ll turn our attention to the trail of hobbies, crafts, and sports we’ve left behind us. We’ll talk about how to accept these changes, evaluate our collections, and let go of the old to clear space for newer passions.

We’ll have refreshments, and don’t forget the drawing for a door prize or two! (You must be present to win.)

Program notes: Organize Your Art Space for a Creative Explosion!

Tried knitting, but hated it? Went to a sale at Michaels and lost your mind buying stuff? Do you wonder what on earth you’re going to do with all the craft supplies taking over your house?

All your unused craft supplies can find new life at a Supply Swap at Sew Crafty (in the Heights) on Sunday, April 11, 2010. Bring the stuff you’re ready to unload, then “shop” from everyone else’s discards. Leftovers will be donated to a local nonprofit called It’s Cool 2 Care, which provides neighborhood kids and teens with materials to make craft projects to benefit local charities like Friends for Life and Trees for Houston!

Creative types have lots of trouble with clutter. Most will tell you that it’s just a sign of the creative process. The only problem is that too much clutter interferes with your ability to be creative! You re-buy supplies because you can’t find the ones you know you already purchased. There’s no clear surface to work on, either. Come learn ways to control your creative materials and space, so you can stop dodging clutter and create freely.
