Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Just in Case…of What?

This week’s assignment is to evaluate an item or collection you’ve been keeping “just in case”:

  • Identify something in your home that you’ve been hanging onto “just in case.”
  • Ask yourself the following questions about this item:
    • How long have you been keeping the object?
    • When was the last time you needed this item—or something like it?
    • How difficult or expensive would it be to replace this thing if you discarded it?
    • Could you find a substitute or a way to manage without the item if you discarded it?
    • What would be the worst consequence of not having this thing?
    • How much time, money, or energy goes into storing, maintaining, cleaning, or keeping track of the item?
    • What other opportunities might you be missing out on by keeping this object?
  • Now reflect on whether you still need this “just in case” item or whether you might finally be ready to let it go.
