The Clutter Fairy Weekly #59
Clutter Hacks: Five-minute Tasks that Pack a Big Decluttering Punch
Tackling clutter is really two jobs: reducing the backlog of accumulated stuff and cultivating habits to keep the mess from getting worse. In episode #59 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, offers a dozen five-minute tasks to jump-start your clutter-prevention strategy, plus a pet-centered Weekly Tittle.
We dedicate this week’s episode with joy, love, and gratitude to Jean Kathleen Lawler Gumnick (January 31, 1932–March 1, 2021). You will live forever in our hearts, Mom.

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.
Declutter Your Pampered Pets
This week’s assignment is inspired by a viewer e-mail from Jane in Florida, who writes, “I have just one dog, Angel, a chihuahua mix, but she has four beds in my bedroom, one in the living room, one under the dining room table, and two in the closet. I don’t want to give up so much floor space. But she looks so cute when she sleeps in the different beds! Obviously, I am not the alpha dog here.”
In honor of Angel the chihuahua, our Weekly Tittle is to tackle your pets’ possessions:
- Pass along the old collars and beds, forgotten toys, extra food dishes, and rejected food.
- Clear away stashes of items that belonged to pets who have passed away.
- Clean the items you’ve collected to the best of your ability, then donate them to an animal rescue organization or shelter.
- If you don’t have a pet, handle a box of baby or child paraphernalia that’s still taking up space in your home.
