The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.
Seeking Clarity
This week’s assignment is to explore your personal balance between clarity and convenience:
- Select a high-use area of your home—for example, the main bathroom counter, the area around the kitchen sink, the living room coffee table, or your bedside table.
- Set a frequency-of-use threshold—the target tolerance level for items left out in this area. For example, you might decide that the only items left in sight will be those that you use multiple times a day. Or you might set a lower threshold by leaving out anything you use at least once a day, a couple of times a week, once a week, etc.
- Remove from the space and put away anything that doesn’t meet the frequency-of-use threshold that you’ve decided on.
- Live with the clearer space for a few days, and pay attention to how it feels to use the area. Do you feel a greater sense of clarity? Or are you inconvenienced by having to go looking for the items that you put away because you use them less frequently?
- Make adjustments as needed to the frequency-of-use threshold you defined for this area, then continue to live with the new arrangement and notice what you notice.
