The Clutter Fairy Weekly #148

Hit Pause on Organizing Projects | Self-care for Holiday Stress

The pressure of holiday activities and year-end priorities means we might have to put organizing projects on hold—or at least in slow motion—and it can be tough to find enthusiasm when when you’re ready to restart. In episode #148 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, suggests strategies for maintaining focus on and commitment to projects that we’ve placed on hold. We’ll also share self-care tips for the chaotic holiday season!

Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Hold, Please!

This week’s assignment is to put on hold any organizing project for which you don’t expect to have time to work in the coming weeks:

  • Take a few photos to remind yourself what you’re working on and where you are in the project.
  • Jot down a few notes about what you’ve done so far and what remains to complete the project.
  • Write down the very next step that you’ll need to take when you resume work.
  • Collect any tools or materials specific to this project into a box, and label it as organizing project tools.
  • Box up the “stuff” that you were working on. Label it with a packing list, or at the very least, the date and name of the project (for example, Office desk decluttering, 12/20/22).
  • Make an appointment to turn your attention back to the project. Schedule the date on your brand-new 2023 calendar!
