The Clutter Fairy Weekly #242

Modify Your Mindset for More Productive Decluttering and Organizing

The mindset with which we approach organizing challenges can have a huge impact on the results we achieve. An unproductive or negative mindset can halt our progress when we’ve barely gotten into motion. In episode #242 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, examines the impact of mindset on decluttering and suggests strategies to shift our thinking to be more growth-oriented and productive.

Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Reset Your Mindset

This week’s assignment is to dig deeper into your own mindset with respect to decluttering and organizing:

  • Schedule a session to work on a small decluttering or organizing project or a small subset of a larger project.
  • Before you begin work, reflect for a few minutes about how you feel. Revisit the survey questions if you need prompting.
  • Write a short statement about any negative mindset or limiting beliefs that you’d like to set aside and a positive, productive mindset that you’d like to practice.
  • Work on your project, taking breaks from time to time to revisit the mindset statement you wrote.
  • Notice whether your mindset, attitude, or feelings as you do the work are changed in any way as a result of having done this exercise.
