The Clutter Fairy Weekly #88

The Great Outdoors: Organize Your Garage, Balcony, Patio, or Shed

We’re getting a break from summer heat—time to get outdoors! For those of us who struggle with clutter, outside spaces can become blocked with junk instead of supporting our outdoor aspirations. In episode #88 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, talks about the kinds of clutter that spill out of our homes and into our garages, patios, sheds, and storage units and shares ideas for making those spaces useful again.

Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

The Greater Outdoors

This week’s assignment is to turn attention to your outdoor life:

  • Evaluate the condition of your garage, shed, patio, deck, balcony, or other outdoor space. How is the space serving your life? Is there anything you’d like to change about it?
  • Remove any trash or items that have outlived their usefulness and are ready right now for disposal, recycling, or donation.
  • If overhauling the space seems like too big a project, you can still make a plan and schedule appointments with yourself for cleaning and refreshing the space to better serve your needs.
  • If your living arrangements don’t include outdoor space, take a look at your window sills and window treatments. Is there any clutter there that’s keeping you from bringing in outdoor air or enjoying the view?
