Survey #160 Response from Nathaniel
Briefly describe the category or collection of items. | Holiday Decorations. We have at least 1 big tote for Every Holiday. 20 totes of Christmas. |
---|---|
Which of these statements best describes your strategy or approach for keeping the category of stuff you described above under control? | I shop without regard for how much I already have, so this category tends to grow out of control on a regular basis. |
Describe any issues you experience with using, storing, displaying, cleaning, maintaining, or organizing the category or collection you described above. | Recently helped mother in law into a 1 room care center. Now it really hits me that need to stop adding to collection. Start now to bring collection down. At very least not add to it. Time goes fast. Before we know it..it will be our turn to give up everything and end up in 1 room carehome. |
Does you home have a “command center”—a spot where you spend a significant amount of time in a variety of activities (e.g., watching TV, reading, doing paperwork, eating meals or snacks, etc.)? | Yes |
Where is your command center? | My recliner |
If you sit in your command center and look around you, which of the following items are within close reach? |
|
How well does your command center fulfill the functions for which you use it? | Could use improvement |
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. | What advise would you go back and tell your younger self about buying things and clutter? I know I wish I'd been warned about "collecting things" |
Future topics | Realizing how little we can actually take with us into a carehome. And how to prepare our attitude to stop adding things and start subtracting. With some sort of happiness and not depression at the idea. |
