Describe a popular myth or misconception about clutter or organizing that you believed in the past, but have now come to see as incorrect. Who or what changed your mind about this idea? | If it's packed away in a cupboard or shed and can't be seen, it's not clutter. |
Describe a limiting belief about clutter or organizing that negatively affects your ability or willingness to address your home organization issues. This may be a belief that you inherited, picked up from popular culture, received from friends or family, or came up with all on your own! | Sorting and disposing of things is not a priority. There are always other things to do instead. (This is avoidance which only makes the problem worse.) |
Future topics | It has served its purpose. I've found this a useful thought when turning around my inability to get rid of things I'd held onto for many years: for example, my deceased mother's hairbrush, kitchen items and beautiful but chipped or cracked vases and crockery. My father's worn and broken items from the shed and old items from his office. They can be incrementally let go of and respectfully placed in the bin after acknowledging they have been useful and brought happiness to my parents. I always kiss the items and thank them for serving their purpose while placing them in the bin. It's always still hard to do, but "you have served your purpose" gets me over the line. |
