Survey #241—Full Response from Rene

How often are you troubled by clutter in the kitchen and/or pantry? | My kitchen is a clutter nightmare! |
What sources of clutter or specific issues do you experience in the kitchen or pantry? | Too many utensils, too many pots and pans, too many junk drawers, duplicates of the same item in multiple drawers, pantry shelves are too deep, and several are too high, so things get pushed to the back and hidden, every horizontal surface gets covered almost as soon as it's cleared... I have no good solution for lids with pots and pans. I have no good solution for reaching shelves that are too high because I have no home for a 2- or 3-step kitchen step stool. I'm not that short, 5'3", but the kitchen seems made for people 6' tall. |
What organizing solutions or strategies have you tried or used in the kitchen, and how have they worked—or failed to work—for you? | I have deep cabinets but have installed pull-out shelves for small appliances, colanders, mixing bowls, baking sheets, and the like. This works well, except it's getting crammed with too much stuff that doesn't belong because the pull-outs are so easy to use. I also converted the bottom cabinet of my hot beverage station into a slide-out for trash and recycling bins. Love this! If only I could figure out how to store a step stool in my too-deep kitchen pantry. |
What “one-trick pony” resides in your kitchen or pantry? Why do you keep it? | Citrus zester. Years ago, I often baked from scratch, and blueberry muffins with some orange zest were delectable. I do have a shrimp deveiner, too. |
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. | What do other shorter people do about those too-high kitchen cabinet shelves? |
Future topics | This isn't a topic but a suggestion to hold a weekly work hour while listening to one of your podcasts. Knowing that others are working on a decluttering task at the same time would be motivational for me. But maybe you do that already? I'm relatively new. |
