If you shop in thrift stores, resale shops, charity stores, pawn shops, or other sources of second-hand goods, what kinds of things do you look for? Are there any categories of items that you would ONLY buy used? Any categories of items that you would NEVER buy used?I try to stay out of thrift stores. When I do go in I am usually looking for something specific, or making a donation and get sucked in. Last time I went shopping in a thrift store I was looking for a purse because I could not find one I liked in any other stores and I was in need of a new one. In the past Ive bought clothes, bags, decrative bowls, books, and music CDs in a thrift store. There isn't anything that I would only buy used. I would never buy shoes second hand. Probably because they can't be washed. yuck.
If you’ve ever completed a major decluttering project, have you experienced re-cluttering anxiety afterwards? Please describe your experience and how you’ve tried to manage this feeling. When I moved states for a new job, I decluttered my closet to a capsule wardrobe before moving. 4 years later now and I am at the point that my closet rod is stuffed to the point where hanging my clothes can be a workout. I have to push everything over to fit each piece. I don’t know how this happened because I honestly hate shopping for clothes, but I guess it just slowly crept up on me. I am so annoyed by this and keep thinking I need to find the time to try everything on and purge. Just that gives me anxiety though.
How often do you deep-clean your kitchen, going above and beyond whatever daily or several-time-a-week routines you maintain? At least once a year
What routines or habits have been useful to ensure that your kitchen is always clean?I try to load the dishwasher as dishes are used.
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. My mother lives in a senior apartment building, and whenever anyone doesn't want anything they put it on the mail room table. It is usually snatched up within the day. On one hand I like this idea instead of donating because it goes to people directly without them having to spend money on it. On the other hand, I worry that when I visit and bring stuff to put out there, I may be contributing to someone else’s clutter because people tend to take free items whether they could use it or not. Do you have any thoughts on this?
