Survey #246—Full Response from Evelin

Describe ways in which clutter has interfered with your ability to entertain visitors or host guests in your home. | Usually my home is not clean enough for having people over. We rarely invite friends to our home and if we do we spend at least one or two days before just with cleaning and tidying. Less clutter would make it easier to clean. |
If you could wave a magic wand to make all your clutter disappear or become beautifully organized in an instant, what kinds of entertaining would you like to do in your theoretical “perfect” space? | I´d love to be able to welcome unannounced guests and not having to panic and to pretend I'm not home. |
What would you consider the bare minimum requirements you’d need to achieve to get your space into shape for entertaining? | clean toilet clean kitchen sink clean stove clean bathroom sink fresh towels clean floors and flat surfaces in all the rooms the guest might see |
How has your concept of entertaining evolved over the years? Do the materials, equipment, and supplies you possess—such as special cookware, extra tableware, serving dishes, decorations, party games, etc.—still support the types of event you’d like to host? | As a young adult I thought I had to decorate a lot. Later in life I found out that I'm neither good at it nor do I like it and I don't have to do it. Once we had friends over for a "Greek dinner", I just used white and blue napkins, some candles, we had Greek food and music, it was lovely. I also found out that if you don't have a lot of board games just ask your guests to bring some of theirs, they will be happy to get more use out of them. |
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. | How do you find and choose the photos for the background? They are always very lovely and thoughtful. |
