What useful decluttering or organizing strategies or methods did you take away from the book? | I did not get a chance to read the book. but I have thought about which books I own that I am having trouble letting go of. |
When you hear the word “minimalism” used to describe a lifestyle, what do you think of? | I think minimalism is a concept that only the wealthy can afford, so I dislike the word. (I think The NY Times did a whole article on this). Having had a career (and therefore needing different clothing), having raised children (and handled all their stuff), and having owned a house (one half of the stuff in my house, is just to keep the house functional, and not personal to me. Not having a large income, I cannot afford to replace most items. So it takes a lot more supplies and time and storage just to keep things in good repair. |
“The things you own end up owning you.”* To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? How is it relevant to your stuff? | I think the house you own (compared to renting), definitely ends up owning you..... ;your time, your money, your worries. I own a house, but I hate owning it. I think I own the Wrong house. But in the long run...it is cheaper than renting. |
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. | this is a repeat question, but I still am curious. what movie or tv show have you seen, where you reacted to the interior of a home. Some people have mentioned they liked "Downton Abbey" because of the orderliness of the big homes. The movie "The Remains of the Day" is mainly about people devoting themselves just to cleaning and operating a large home. "The Ghost Writer" movie shows two interiors....one very modern and sparse....and one traditional home...full of stuff. I think some of the ugliest homes , are the most efficient to live in. And some beautiful homes do not operate efficiently, and therefore clutter accumulates too easily. |
Future topics | Places to take donations. I just returned a vase to the florist who delivered an arrangement for Valentine's Day. I was having trouble donating it to Goodwill, but it was easy to support a small local town florist. It felt good. And I just donated all of my music cd's and Cd player to senior citizen home in town. That felt good too, knowing these were local. I think libraries could use pens and note paper. I was wondering what unusual places might take donations. |
